There are many types of temporary work visas available in the United States if you are currently abroad. If you are an entertainer, performer, athlete, or established and well-known professional in a certain field, you have two options:
An O Visa is a type of non-immigrant temporary visa for workers with extraordinary abilities. It is often given to individuals who work in the field of education, arts, athletics, science, or related areas. For example, this may include a chef (defined as the arts), a potential NBA recruit, or even a leading professor in a distinct field. The Citizenship and Immigration Service will rely on the advisory opinion from the related union regarding the applicant's abilities.
If granted, the initial maximum time is three years, however, unlimited 1-year extensions may be granted to an O-1 visa holder.
This visa can be granted to performers in a group, athletes on a team, teachers, coaches, or other unique and acclaimed performers coming to the U.S. for work purposes. The intention of the visa is to allow the performer to stay for a single performance, event, or game, however, this can be defined further as a season or contract.
If granted, you may be allowed to stay for up to a full year, while athletes are granted up to five years.
Visa applications and processes can be complicated.
